Labor relations matters at our firm are handled by attorney Guy A. Bryant. During the course of his legal career, Mr. Bryant has acted as labor counsel and chief negotiator for school districts across the state of California, as well as a liaison between public entities and communities. He has substantial experience evaluating union proposals on behalf of public entities, a solid grasp of budgetary realities and most importantly, an understanding of the core values of public entities and communities throughout California. He has served as chief negotiator in collective bargaining talks for a number of California school districts, including:

  • King City Joint Union High School District in Monterey County from 1997 through 2005
  • Hollister Elementary School District in San Benito County from 2003 to 2006
  • the Santa Ana Unified School District from 1997 until 2004
  • the Pittsburg Unified School District in Contra Costa County from 1994 through 2002
  • the Oakland Unified School District in Alameda County from 1994-1998. [In 2002 Bryant & Brown was designated Special Facilities Counsel by OUSD's school board to provide ongoing legal services regarding Facilities and Personnel.]
  • the Rosemead School District in L.A. County from 1997-Present

Mr. Bryant represented the Monterey County Office of Education in all collective bargaining agreements with classified employees, including Head Start and Migrant Education workers. He has also appeared before the Public Employer Relations Board (PERB).

Since 2005 Mr. Bryant has been primary labor counsel for the Alameda County Community Food Bank a major non-profit organization providing services for the poor located in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area. Mr. Bryant has a great deal of experience dealing with the complex labor and employement issues of non-profit organizations.

As lead attorney in several certified and classified layoff disputes, Mr. Bryant has negotiated the effects of layoffs and alternative layoff procedures. In fact, over the last five years he has conducted three layoff hearings before the Office of Administrative Hearings, in proceedings involving as many as 75 employees.
